Passion Friday 2026 at the Sanctuary

03/04/2026

Last Friday, March 27, the Sanctuary gathered more than 3,000 pilgrims on this Passion Friday.

The events began at 5:00 PM, when several priests administered the sacrament of forgiveness in the Chapel of Reconciliation to all those who wished to receive it. Then, around 6:00 PM, the Way of the Cross began along the Via Sacra, passing through the surroundings of the Sanctuary, where on one side of the path one could see the monoliths with the Stations of the Cross and on the other the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary.

Finally, after the Way of the Cross, the Eucharist began, presided over by Monsignor José Rodríguez Carballo, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Mérida – Badajoz, where he recalled that “Jesus was not rejected for doing evil, but for doing good, and he responds to rejection with love, not violence, and this is the Christian path.” He also asked that the Virgin teach us to live by forgiving, loving, and reconciling, because although it may seem that forgiving is for weak people, “to forgive one must be very brave.”
